Google I/O 2025 Set for May 20–21: Android 16, AI, XR Launches

Google will hold Google I/O 2025, its developer conference, May 20 and 21 at Shoreline Amphitheatre. The company will stream keynotes and talks online for viewers around the world.

Sessions will cover Android, artificial intelligence, web tools and cloud services. Developers, tech firms and end users can expect updates in each area.

Android 16 is set to debut at the conference. Expected changes include new volume controls, an updated user interface layout and tools designed for users with special needs. Health Connect 2.0 may enable apps to share medical records in a common format and track physical activity. An Advanced Protection Mode could activate extra security steps automatically.

Artificial intelligence will be a central theme. Google plans to announce enhancements to its Gemini models, including a possible Gemini Ultra tier with extra features and a revised subscription plan. The company will also present Astra, a project focused on AI that can process and respond to text, audio and visual inputs.

Google and Samsung will introduce Android XR, a platform for virtual, augmented and mixed reality devices powered by Gemini AI. The system aims to support headsets and smart glasses and invite partners to build compatible hardware.

Registration is open online. Participants can join live sessions, developer labs and question-and-answer panels during the two-day event.
